Secure Freedom Minute: The Next Speaker Must Not Interfere with Sequioa’s Investigation

House Republicans’ inability to select a Speaker dominates the news from Capitol Hill. But one of the distinct upsides of Kevin McCarthy’s removal deserves our attention – and applause.

After that Speaker’s ousting, the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party launched a long-overdue investigation it hadn’t pursued during his rule. 

On October 17th, the Select Committee’s bipartisan leadership sent a lengthy letter soliciting information from the world’s largest venture capital firm, Sequoia Capital. Its focus is the immense help Sequoia has given to the CCP in securing access to the best of America’s high technology, much of it enabling China’s military transformation that now threatens our utter destruction.

Sequoia gave Speaker McCarthy large contributions and he shut down a previous inquiry into that company’s aiding and abetting of our mortal enemy. Whoever’s next must pledge not to do the same.
