Secure Freedom Minute: Kevin McCarthy Must Not Be the Next Speaker
Tomorrow, a new Republican majority will take charge of the U.S. House of Representatives. Or will it? If Kevin McCarthy manages to secure the votes needed to elect him Speaker, chances are that the next two years will be more or less a reprise of the uniparty’s misrule that we have experienced for the past four years under Democratic leadership.
Take the appalling Omnibus bill enacted before Christmas, ostensibly over the adamant opposition of the GOP minority. Mr. McCarthy publicly denounced the idea of locking in spending amounts and priorities of Nancy Pelosi’s House Democrats through the end of the fiscal year next October. Yet, McCarthy reportedly endorsed this idea in a private meeting at its inception – then dissembled about it.
In short, such untrustworthiness exemplifies why Kevin McCarthy likely will not be the next Speaker. And why he should never be.
This is Frank Gaffney.
