‘No Accident, Comrade’?
The CCP and Others’ Threats to Our Critical Infrastructure
What We Have Learned from the Disaster in Baltimore, and Should Have Already
WASHINGTON, D.C.—A foreign-owned and -operated ship just destroyed an important bridge in Baltimore, with devastating impact on its port and people – and still-cascading disruptions in the U.S. transportation, commercial, and trade sectors.
While the official inquiry into what happened has just gotten underway, the huge container vessel known as the Dali clearly had myriad electrical and other physical problems and a checkered record of unsafe operations.
Other troubling facts have already come to light: The Dali left port despite having had “serious power outages” while docked in Baltimore. She did so unaccompanied by even one of the tugboats that usually accompany such large cargo vessels to prevent precisely this sort of mishap. And that thousand-foot-long container ship struck with predictable, strategic consequences a bridge well-known for its structural vulnerabilities.
Whether this disaster proves to have been nothing more than a terrible accident, it underscores an ominous reality: deliberate efforts to disrupt, or even take down, America’s vast critical infrastructure could be easily mounted with potentially catastrophic effects on this country’s population, society, and economy. And thanks especially to the destruction of our borders by the Biden administration, there are large numbers of unaccompanied, military-age men from Communist China and Sharia-supremacist nations now in this country and surely capable of sabotaging our grid and the other vital assets it powers.
Today’s extremely timely Committee on the Present Danger: China webinar will examine whether our enemies are poised to exploit such vulnerabilities and whether anything is being done to prevent that. Register at PresentDangerChina.org.
Moderator: Frank Gaffney, Founder and Executive Chairman, Center for Security Policy; Vice Chairman, Committee on the Present Danger: China
